Nutrition Council Updates Barangay Activities

The National Nutrition Council (NNC) 7 on Wednesday announced they are updating its assistance programs for all malnourished children and adults in the barangay level all over the Central Visayas.

NNC 7 officer Susan Orpilla revealed this during the Association of Government Information Officers (AGIO) forum before Cebu media held at Harolds Hotel.

Orpilla said they are coordinating with all local government units (LGUs) from all municipalities in Central Visayas to support the NNC in all of its nutrition activities.

She said the LGU participation is not only up to cash allocations but also to employ manpower for nutrition scholars from their localities. These nutrition scholars will serve as coordinator between the NNC municipal office and the barangay residents, Orpilla explained.

Orpilla stressed that this month’s nutrition celebration was launched last July 1 with walk from Malacañang sa Sugbo to Plaza Sugbo in front of Cebu City Hall. She said the NNC activities are inspired by the theme: “Kalamidad Paghandaan, Malnutrisyon Agapan”.

“NNC programs served as an awareness campaign that the government, through the NNC, is ready all the time to help them in all aspects of their daily activities especially on their nutrition problems” Orpilaa said.

Natural calamities such as the earthquake last October and super typhoon Yolanda hitting the provinces of Bohol and Cebu last year have brought challenges on severe and acute malnutrition to hundreds of children and even adults in the areas, she added.

The official said that until now the NNC through the support of LGUs in all affected areas in Bohol and Cebu are continuing their nutrition activities in maintaining the nutrition needs of all earthquake and typhoon victims.

However, Orpilla said they are now in the recovery period of giving the nutritional support to all victims adding that they are thankful to the LGUs who in one way or another provided their valuable help to their activities.

She said that in times of peace and trouble NNC is there to maintain good nutrition to all. (With Press Release)
