CEMEX Prepares for Bigger Construction Demand

Published

In just about every major city in the country, infrastructure development projects are predominantly underway.

The country’s impressive GDP growth over the last couple of years has spurred a construction boom ranging from luxurious high-rise condominiums to mid-range housing development projects.

Essentially, the continuous growth in urban development poses a challenge for the cement industry to provide reliable building technology.

Earlier, CEMEX Philippines recently announced its capacity expansion project in its APO Cement Plant in Naga City, Cebu through an investment of approximately US$80 million.

This expansion initiative will increase APO Plant’s cement production by 1.5 million metric tons per year.

“We are preparing our facilities for the increasing demand in the Philippines, and with this expansion also comes our plans to continuously improve the efficient way we use energy, which is one of the most expensive input costs in our process,” said CEMEX Asia President Joaquin Estrada.

As part of its sustainability framework, CEMEX Philippines uses alternative fuels such as rice husks and Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) instead of coal to effectively minimize energy cost.

Two of APO Cement Plant’s leading brands are APO Portland Premium and APO Masonry Cement. APO Portland is a multi-purpose cement used for roads, pavements, bridges, and foundations; while APO Masonry is effective for plastering due to its tile adhesive property.

Additionally, CEMEX Philippines has a highly engineered ready-mix concrete called Promptis, formulated by the CEMEX Research Group AG in Switzerland. A road built with Promptis will be open for use 24 hours after the pouring, instead of the usual three days when normal concrete is used. Promptis is particularly suitable for modern construction project with demanding time constraints.

CEMEX Philippines is the manufacturer of the only eco-labeled cement brands in the country including lsland Portland Cement, Palitada King, Rizal Portland Super, Rizal Masonry cement, APO Portland Premium, APO Portland cement, APO Masonry Cbment, and APO Pozzolan.
