Gabii sa Kabilin Goes Mobile
Gabii sa Kabilin has taken heritage appreciation to a whole new level after Innopub Media, in partnership with the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI), developed a mobile app that visitors can download on their android phones via Google Play Store, for free.
RAFI Culture & Heritage executive director Dr. Jocelyn Gerra believes that they will be able to reach a much wider audience with this app and have more people joining the celebration, which is happening on May 30, Friday, 6 p.m. until midnight.
“It brings Gabii sa Kabilin to a very different platform, to a platform which is really popular for young people,” she said.
The Gabii sa Kabilin mobile app is a comprehensive and mobile guide to Gabii sa Kabilin. It lists and provides information on participating sites and featured locations, gives information about the event including bus routes and places to eat — everything you need to enhance your Gabii sa Kabilin experience.
“The Gabii sa Kabilin is a project that is close to our heart. Our background is in journalism and technology and it was through GSK that we got interested in heritage and culture and discovered the huge potential of using tech to deliver cultural, tourism and historical information,” shares Innopub co-founder, Max Limpag.
InnoPub Media is a startup company seeking to harness the latest technology to deliver information in new ways. Co-founded by Cebuano journalists, Max and Marlen Limpag, Innopub’s main project is Digital Tourism, which involves the use of phones to serve as tourism, heritage and historical guides.
While the app primarily benefits Gabii sa Kabilin participants, it can still be enjoyed by anyone interested in Cebu’s heritage after the event. Users who have downloaded the app can easily get updated information whenever they upgrade to newer versions of the app.
“Beyond Gabii sa Kabilin, people who want to visit Cebu can use this application in going to the different sites. Also, this can be used by students who would want to know more about the sites which are important to Cebu’s heritage and culture,” Gerra adds.
The Gabii sa Kabilin mobile app will also be available for download on Windows Phone Store soon.
