Summer Tips on How to Buy Sunglasses
Sunglasses protect the eyes from damage, dryness and are especially useful for those who have sensitive eyes. So, it is important to wear sunglasses all year round, especially during summer. Dr. Susheel Deshmukh, Consultant at Bhojraj Chnarai Sankara Eye Hospital gives us a few tips on how to buy sunglasses.
There are three crucial factors, which determine a good pair of sunglasses:
1) UV protection: Sunglasses should offer 100 percent protection from UVA and UVB rays. Also, sunglasses should be polarized and have anti-reflective lenses to deflect and reduce glare.
2) The Quality of Plastic used: Polycarbonate is tough and lightweight and is commonly used to make frames and lenses. For lenses, CR-39 is a good option as it is shatter proof. Choose plastic, which is strong and does not break easily and will not injure the eyes if shattered.
3) Tint: The tint of the sunglasses is also important to protect the eyes. Each tint blocks out light on various levels.
Grey-tint is great for drivers as it reduces brightness and does not change color.
Amber and brown tint reduce blue light.
Lenses that are darker from the top and fades to a lighter tint is great for blocking light coming from above.
