The government’s food agency has warned the public against drinking unregistered bottled water being sold by unscrupulous vendors especially during summer time.

Joyce Cirunay, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) information officer said that this unlicensed potable water are common in the markets and sidewalks whose target customers are motorists , travelers and vehicle passengers.

Cirunay also added that this kind of drinking water have cheaper prices than the branded and registered ones.

According to Cirunay that unregistered bottled water can easily be detected because there is no registration number listing at its label on the plastic container. She said that any food items which are unlicensed by the government’s appropriate agency have not passed the FDA examination.

So she warned the public that before drinking bottled water, the brand must be considered first, then the FDA registration number must also be found on its label.

Cirunay explained that the registration number is issued after the drinking water has passed the FDA standards.

The FDA is a lone government’s agency which is authorized to test whether the water and other food items are safe for human consumption or not. So once the item passed the screening tests to be made by the FDA, it should be considered as an FDA licensed item, thus it is safe for human consumption.

However, the FDA spokeswoman also told that after finding the water is safe, the buyer must also look that its cap is properly sealed and not broken to prove it is not a refill one.

Cirunay also reminded everybody that before drinking the bottled water it must be checked first if no dirty objects are floating inside its jar to insure its credibility.

Cirunay further said that all water refilling stations are not authorized by the FDA to sell bottled water even if they are regulated by the local government unit.
