PB Wants CCTVs in All Establishments
Because it is a way to identify criminals, the Cebu Provincial Board is urging all local government units (LGU) to require commercial establishments to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras.
“Faithful compliance to this resolution will constitute a two-pronged attack in the field of crime and punishment as the same will first and foremost be a deterrent to the commission of crime, and second, the same will serve as a very useful and indispensable aid in the investigation and prosecution of the crime itself,” said PB member Antonio Miguel Magpale, who sponsored the resolution.
The resolution, which was approved by the PB last Monday, has encouraged all LGUs in the province to pass an ordinance requiring all establishments, financial institutions and others, to put up this type of cameras for security purposes and for identifying criminals.
“The string of high-profile killings and robberies being experienced by the province coupled with the inability of the pertinent authorities concerned to solve or preclude the happening of similar unfortunate occurrences in certain instances fosters a culture of discontent and impunity among the inhabitants of the province,” said Magpale.
Magpale added that the spate of crimes has impacted “negatively” on the investment climate of the province thereby deterring further investments, hence this must be stopped.
