Panasonic Unveils Lumix GF6 With Wi-Fi And NFC
Panasonic is proud to introduce a new Digital Single Lens Mirrorless Camera DMC-GF6 from the stylish, most compact GF series of LUMIX G. The new 16.00–megapixel Live MOS Sensor achieves high-resolution, high sensitivity image recording.
The camera includes an improved 16-megapixel sensors (up from 12.1), a new processing engine to reduce noise in low-light photos, a 3-inch LCD that tilts 180 degrees upward, and a new dedicated hardware dial. Perhaps more importantly, it also packs Wi-Fi and NFC—the first time on its interchangeable lens body cameras—so you can use your mobile as a remote control and download images straight from the camera.
Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF6 key specifications:
- 16MP Four Thirds sensor (as used in GX1)
- Tilting ‘Cell-touch LCD’ touchscreen – 1.04m dots (720 x 480 pixels)
- Near-field communication (NFC) to simplify Wi-Fi connection
- Mode dial and four customizable function buttons (two on-screen)
- 1080p30 video as MP4 or AVCHD (presented as 60i PsF in AVCHD mode)
- Jog lever around shutter button (which operates zoom or exposure compensation)
- Sensitivity expandable up to ISO 25,600
- Faster startup (as quick as 0.5 sec with non-power-zoom lenses)
The GF6 shoots 1080i video at 60fps in AVCHD, or 1080p at 30fps in MP4. Otherwise, the camera is similar to the GF5, especially in terms of size and shape. All told, it looks like it could shape up to be a decent and (relatively) inexpensive Micro Four Thirds camera. Currently there’s no official word on availability or pricing, but rumors suggest it’ll cost $650, including a 14-42mm kit lens.
