The Department of Health (DOH-7) reminded agricultural farmers to be vigilant with the onset of heat stroke during this summer period which expected to arrive this month.

DOH-7 Assistant Health Promotion and Education Bernadine Ayag said that aside from plants and animals, farmers will have to be watchful too on this summer season, where too much heat around is being experienced due to the El Niño phenomenon.

Ayag has indicated that too much heat will possibly trigger a heat stroke to both humans and animals.

Ayag also asked farmers to go to their farms early in the morning up to 9:00 o’clock.

She added that after 10:00 o’clock in the morning down to 3:00 o’clock in the afternoon, the sun’s heat is no longer good for the human body.

“To protect themselves from too much heat, they have to wear hat and long sleeves and drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration”, she said.

But Ayag instructions is not only limited to farmers as she also sounded this to all industry workers, students, drivers, traffic enforcers ,young and adults and athletes.

She said that farmers may always find shade, and wearing eyeglasses is an additional input for life protection against too much heat of the sun.

Ayag also said that the first thing to be observed when someone is experiencing heat stroke is high fever, fast heart beat, headache, fainting and other related abnormality of his body.

If ever these things happened, they should immediately seek cover and let the victim lie down, feet up and give him water to drink.

Placing ice cubes at his joints may also be of good help, but if everything fails, the patient must be sent immediately to the hospital.
