The National Statistics Office(NSO) has now a new name, NSO-7 information officer Noel Rafols said yesterday.

Rafols said that the Philippine Statistics Authority(PSA), the NSO’s new name was made through Republic Act No. 10625 otherwise known as the Philippine Statistic Act of 2013 which was acted on September 2013.

Although there are still more facts to be thoroughly refined regarding the changes, but PSA , is now the NSO’s official new name.

At the AGIO Forum yesterday, Rafols also announced that they are now conducting a survey on all business establishments in Cebu and the other three provinces of Central Visayas.

He said that the primary purpose of the said survey is to gather information regarding the stability of all business establishments within the region.

However, Rafols said the said survey is catered only to those business firms with 10 or more personnel.

Rafols, who did not elaborate on the number of PSA staff who acted as surveyor, said that all of them are coming from the major statistical agencies engaged in primary data collection and compilation, such as the NSO, Technical Staff of the National Statistical Coordination Board(NSCB), Bureau of Agricultural Statistic (BAS) and the Bureau of Labor and Employment Statistics (BLES).

Rafols said the survey questionnaires will include tax remittances of the business firm and all pertinent data where the government usually based its study on how to improve its significant services intended for the business sector.

He also clarified that the said survey is just one of the primary functions of PSA, aside from the periodic census on population, housing, agriculture, fisheries, business, industry and all other sectors and economic key players in the country.
