A task force composed of members from special police units has been created to investigate and arrest the armed men who ambushed and killed lawyer Noel Archival and two other companions.

Central Visayas police director Danilo Constantino designated Senior Superintendent Noel Gillamac, director of Cebu Police Provincial Office (CPPO) to head the task force.

Superintendent Medardo Ritchie Posadas, the head of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-7, will serve as the assistant task force head.

The task force is composed of representatives of the PNP Crime Laboratory Service (CLS)-7 and other police units. The Regional Intelligence under Superintendent Pablo Labra II and the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) will also help the task force.

Constantino directed the task force to work hard to solve the killing of Noel Archival, brother of Cebu City Councilor Nestor Archival.

Archival’s companions Alejandro Jayme and Candido Miñoza were also killed during the ambush, while Paulo Cortez was wounded. It was Cortez who narrated how the incident took place.

The 52-year old Archival were heading back to Cebu City from Dumaguete City in Negros Oriental, where they attended a court hearing of a robbery case where the lawyer represented the respondent.

While travelling the national highway at Barangay Coro, Dalaguete at past 1 p.m. Tuesday, a red Hilux vehicle tried to overtake Archival’s Sports Utility Vehicle, then sprayed bullets to the victims.

Another black four-wheel-drive pickup was tailing the lawyer’s vehicle that served as back up of the gunmen.

Archival and his aide Candido Miñoza sustained several bullet wounds and died on the spot, while Jayme was declared already dead upon his arrival at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City.

The lawyer’s vehicle (YGE-240) sustained 31 bullet holes believed to be coming from an M16 Armalite rifle because the responding policemen recovered several empty shells of 5.56 milimeter ammunition, said Dalaguete police chief Rico Emperoa.
