Capitol to Work Harder Vs Child Cyber-Porn
Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III said he wants to get serious against child cyber-pornography and asked local police to assist the provincial Capitol to stop it.
“My hope is that the PNP would insert more efforts on this, as drugs is not their only problem these days,” Davide said.
“We have to keep Cebu free from cyber porn. Bati kaayo for us nga tourism destination and deeply Catholic but naa na nga problema,” he added.
Davide said at the Capitol level, he would seek the help of the provincial board to see what steps they would take to address the problem.
He said it has become alarming that even the international authorities have taken steps to help the local government rescue child-victims.
“We have to work harder to stamp out this threat to our society,” Davide said. He also appealed to the parents not to send their children to foreigners or pimps, instead raise them to become good citizens.
The International Justice Mission (IJM) and other groups have concluded that parents are part of the grand scheme why cases of child pornography and sex tourism have increased over the years.
The children reportedly earn from P3,000 to P5,000 for a few hours in session in front of the computer with a foreigner at the other end.
“Somehow the parents are responsible. They should raise thier children to become good citizens. Let’s hope ato na ni’ng masumpo,” the governor said.
