The Central Command (CENTCOM) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines(AFP) is now monitoring rebel movements in the Visayas regions.

The move is in connection with the intelligence reports they received that the New People’s Army (NPA) is now planning to launch attacks in the provinces of Cebu, Negros Oriental and Bohol.

Maj. Gen. John Bonafos, the CENTCOM commander hinted that they are evaluating this report and said that they are always ready anytime to preempt if the rebel groups will start harassing the people.

He said that so far they have not yet received reports about any chaotic incidents involving the rebel forces in areas being mentioned.

But according to Bonafos they are now preparing all their capabilities to respond any attacks that may possibly be conducted by their enemies.

He also said that their clearing operations against the NPA rebels in the provinces of Antique and Eastern Samar in both Eastern and Western Visayas were successful due to the support given by the civilians.

They have able to build some government infrastructure such school buildings, road openings and other rehabilitation which help a lot to the poor people in the areas.

However, he said that their function is to protect the people but without the people’s support they will not achieve the real peace and order needed by the people.
