Capitol to Check Tax Stickers on Trucks Today
Starting Tuesday, the Cebu Provincial Capitol will start impounding commercial or delivery trucks plying its road without the required tax stickers.
“Magsugod nami og impound ugma (today) og mga truck nga wa kabayad,” said Capitol Security Officer Loy Anthony Madrigal on Monday.
Madrigal said there are no more extension as truck owners were already given two weeks’ notice before today’s implementation.
This move is supported by Cebu’s Revenue Code of 2008 wherein every commercial or delivery truck that plies the provincial road must pay P550 as annual fixed tax, and in return, the province will give a sticker to be posted on the subject truck.
A portion of the ordinance refers to a vehicle as “Any vehicle used by manufacturers, producers, wholesalers, dealers or retailers used in transporting goods in the province.”
The same law also allows the Capitol to slap violators with at least P1,000 and a maximum of P5,000 as penalty. And if truck owner still refuses to pay the penalty, the Capitol has the right to impound the subject vehicle and impose an additional 25 percent in surcharge and another 2 percent per month on top of the P550 fixed tax.
Authorities said this is apart from the P50 fee each day the truck is with the Capitol’s custody.
Madrigal said as of last Friday, there were already more than 800 trucks that have registered or a total of almost P500,000 in taxes.
