New Ulli’s Streets of Asia Resto Opens

From Cafe Laguna, Laguna Garden Cafe, Lemon Grass, U Kitchen and Laguna Catering comes the new pride of the Urbina family’s Laguna Group of Restaurants, which will surely be another favorite of the Cebuanos and Filipinos alike–Ulli’s Streets of Asia.

It was officially opened last December 28 and was well-attended by the hands-on Urbina family members, friends from the media, Mayor Michael Rama and other invited guests.

It took one year for the Urbinas to conceptualize the restaurant. Instead of finding a name that will attach to a cuisine, the term “Ulli” was taken from the term of endearment for Julita “Julie” Urbina, the grandmother of the Urbina’s third generation.

Who would’ve thought then that Asian street food would be served in a welcoming, cozy, relaxing ambiance? Travel and culture have greatly influenced the menu in this new restaurant in the metro. It is only in Ulli’s Streets of Asia where you can find a showcase of Singaporean, Japanese and Hongkong street foods at a surprisingly very affordable price. It is also good to know that every dish is an actual recipe of the countries they come from, allowing diners to have a touch of their fast-paced lifestyles and traditions without having to travel.

At Ulli’s, one can enjoy a dining experience with meals all prepared in an open kitchen, permitting customers to witness the food preparation in plain sight—a mark of how street foods are whipped up. It also means that once you order your choice, that’s the time they make it. Among their offers are yakitori-style barbecues, fish or prawn balls in broth or in curries, salads, angus beef rolls and a variety of noodles. Szechuan riblets and Asian popiah are also other specials paired with the resto’s signature multi-grain fried rice. There is also the availability of stone pot meals which includes bamboo shoots, pata tim, shrimps and tofu.

“It’s like you already traveled and you have good food and paid for less,” Managing Director and Corporate Chef Raki Urbina noted.

Indeed, it’s all street foods at a healthy state at Ulli’s. Adding up to its bevy of scrumptious meals are their nutritious desserts and healthy fresh fruit blends which are all guaranteed to be made of nothing but pure fruits and vegetables. There is the Fruit Cup with Yogurt and 10 variants of freshly squeezed fruit and vegetable concoctions such as the Marina Mixer, Sentosa Cooler and Tokyo Drip.

If you dine at Ulli’s, self-made condiments are also one of the notable features you can find there. The typical soy sauce we know which gives us the impression of saltiness has been given twists with their “house-soy” without that salty taste. We can’t also belittle their “home-made chili” sauce because it won’t give you a warning of the “bang” of hotness it would have as an aftertaste.

For those who want it fast and ready-to-go, Ulli’s has also an accessible take out counter making selections on their menu “quick and easy” especially to avid movie-goers since the restaurant is situated near the Ayala Center Cebu cinemas.

Diners especially Cebuanos are easily captivated by the appeal of street foods since it has already been a part of our lives. No wonder that in this business venture, all markets are targeted. There is no exemption–whether you belong to the upper class or a commoner, you’ll always find yourself in the comfort of street foods.

Ulli’s Streets of Asia is located at the rooftop garden of Ayala Center Cebu’s new wing and is now available for reservations. You can contact them at (o32) 260-2486 or visit their websites at www.cafelaguna.com or www.lagunagroup.ph
