Schumacher Stable, Brain Injury Still Critical
Formula One legend Michael Schumacher’s condition was now stable but still considered critical as he remained unconscious after suffering a brain injury in a skiing accident on Sunday.
Schumacher had critical head injuries when he fell and struck his head on a rock while skiing with his 14-year-old son, Mick, on Sunday during a family vacation at Meribel in the French Alps.
Mick was with Michael with a group of friends when the incident happened in a small, rock-stewn portion of open ground between two groomed pistes.
Schumacher’s manager Sabine Kehm said Michael’s condition has not changed and quoted doctors as saying ‘Michael showed signs of improvement last Tuesday after the operation.
Schumacher, the seven-time F1 champion, has undergone two brain operations and remains in a medically induced coma.
Kehm said ” its still very early, and the situation overall is critical. Everything can change immediately.”
Doctors are focused on his immediate care trying to reduce the swelling in his brain by keeping him in a coma and by lowering his body temperature between 34 and 35 degrees celsius ( 93.2 and 95 Fahrenheit).
Kehm added Schumacher was surrounded with his family- his wife, daughter and son.
“They are trying to support him by being by his side” Kehm said.
Michael Schumacher is the most successful Formula One race driver in history. He got 91 race wins. He retired from Formula One in 2012 after having unmatched seven world titles.
