Tacloban Inmate Surrenders to NBI
An inmate who was among those who escaped at the height of Super Typhoon Yolanda voluntarily surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) 7 last Tuesday.
Greg Algoso, NBI-7 supervising agent, said Anthony Arillas, who was charged for murder in Tacloban, was accompanied by his Cebu-based parents when he surrendered to their office. Arillas, 30, said he did not escape, it just happened that the Tacloban City Jail was washed out with storm water at the height of the super storm.
“Wa naman mi choice, nanggawas mi kay nangita og kaon. Sa akong pagpangita og asa makakaon, nakaabot ko’s airport og nisakay sa C-130,” Arillas said. He said he came to Cebu as this is where his family is based.
NBI-7 believes there are still a number of inmates from Tacloban who are in Cebu.
Meanwhile, NBI7 regional director Antonio Pagatpat will personally turn over Arilla, who is temporarily detained at their stockade area, to Tacloban City this week.
