Makati Court Denies Napoles’ Bail

A Makati court has rejected the bail petition of alleged pork barrel scam brains Janet Lim-Napoles in her serious illegal detention case, authorities said on Thursday.

Justice secretary Leila de Lima on Thursday said “JLN’s petition for bail in the serious illegal detention case denied by Judge [Elmo] Alameda in an order issued today,”

Prosecutor General Claro Arellano also confirmed the Makati court’s decision.

Arellano said the prosecution was able to prove the existence of conspiracy. “The prosecution was able to establish the existence of conspiracy between Janet Lim Napoles and [Reynald] Jojo Lim concerning the commission of the crime of serious illegal detention,”he said.

Lim is the brother of Napoles. Lim had insisted that there was no probable cause to charge him for the supposed illegal detention of Benhur Luy, who is an employee of his sister Janet’s JLN Corp.

Janet Lim-Napoles is currently detained at Fort Sto. Domingo in Laguna, while Lim remains at large.

Napoles is currently facing separate criminal charges before the Office of the Ombudsman in connection with the alleged funneling of the P10 billion Priority Development Assistance Funds (PDAF) to bogus non-government organizations and to non-existent projects.
