NDRRMC Says Death Toll Now 3,633; Damage at P9.46B
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Saturday said the death toll from Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) went up further to 3,633 by Saturday morning, adding that Yolanda had displaced nearly two million people, and caused P9.46 billion in damage, Gma news Online said.
Th Online News reported NDRRMC saying, in its 8 am Saturday update, that aside from the fatalities, there are 12,487 injured and 1,179 still missing.
The national disaster council said Yolanda had affected 1,962,898 families or 9,073,804 people in 9,303 villages in 44 provinces. Of these figures, 86,909 families or 422,290 people are staying in 1,142 evacuation centers, Gma News Online reported.
The council also said Yolanda caused P9,460,240,222.13 in damage, including P371,058,761.13 in infrastructure and P9,089,181,461 in agriculture. It added Yolanda destroyed 160,831 houses and damaged 126,368 others, Gma News Online said.
