Mayor Rama Declares Suspension of Classes in Cebu City
Cebu City Mayor Michael Lopez Rama has declared a suspension of classes in all levels both for public and private schools in this city on November 7-8, 2013 Thursday and Friday respectively in preparation for the super typhoon Yolanda which will affect the city later this week.
The pronouncement was made by the city’s Chief Executive in a Press Conference with City Hall Beat Media shortly after the Command Conference for the city’s preparations for the incoming typhoon with the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council together with the Multi-agency Coordinating Team and volunteer groups today November 6, 2013 Wednesday at the Mayor’s Conference Room.
Mayor Rama further emphasized that there will be work in Cebu City Hall tomorrow but it will be suspended on Friday, adding that for private establishments it will depend on the management’s discretion.
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) Mactan Cebu weather bureau chief Oscar Tabada said that super typhoon Yolanda will affect the northern part of Cebu starting Thursday evening November 7 until Friday.
Tabada added that as of 10:30AM today the eye of Typhoon Yolanda was estimated 1,411 East of Mindana0 (7.4N; 139.1E) with maximum sustained winds of 150 kph near center and gustiness of 180kph and has the potential of becoming stronger due to the warm Sea Surface Temperature.
The Pag-asa Mactan Cebu weather bureau chief also underscored that the typhoon is expected to make landfall over Samar-Leyte Area by Friday between 11Am-1Pm and will exit in the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by early morning on Sunday November 10, adding that everyone is advised to make preparations for the bad weather and watch for the next advisory to be issued at 5Pm today.
