Pagasa to Confirm if Monday’s Violent Wind is Tornado
At least four people were hurt and several houses were damaged after two violent and destructive whirling winds hit the cities of Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue Monday night.
PAGASA Visayas director Oscar Tabada said they have yet to confirm if the strong whirlwind which hit said areas were tornado, but based
from the strength, Tabada said it was possible.
In Mandaue City, more than 10 houses were destroyed while one woman was hurt in Looc, after a tornado hit the area at around 7 pm.
At least three houses were damaged and three people were injured in Lapu-Lapu City when another violent whirl struck the Mactan Shrine.
There were also reports of strong whirlwind in Barangay Banilad, Cebu City and in North Reclamation Area in Mandaue.
Tabada said the whirlwinds could have been caused by Tropical Depression “Wilma”, which was exiting the province at that time.
