They may not be political allies, but Talisay City Councilor Danny Caballero is throwing his support to Tabunok barangay captain Maning Cabriana as the next Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) president.

“I have my full support for Kap. Maning, and I don’t care if he is not with the Liberal Party (LP). The barangay is non-partisan anyway,” said first Councilor Caballero.

Caballero, an Liberal Party (LP) member, said it is important to choose someone like Cabriana, a seasoned barangay captain being on his third term, to represent the city’s 22 barangays in the council.

Whoever is elected as ABC head automatically becomes an ex-officio member of the City Council.

For his part, Cabriana said the Alayon Party, where he belongs, has yet to decide who will be fielded as ABC president bet in the coming ABC election. It is rumored that apart from him Barangay Bulacao’s Raul Cabañero, San Isidro’s Yehyen Bucao and Tangke’s Delia Ybañes were among in the shortlist of Alayon.

Alayon senior member Councilor Dennis Basillote, for his part, said they will chose a candidate who is a senior member of the group and “loyal to the party.”

Caballero said he will not be giving his support to an LP bet because they do not have the number (LP has only four of the 22 barangays), he maintains that the ABC election must not be partisan.
