Money Thoughts
What is a proper perspective toward money?
“No one can serve two masters…You cannot serve both God and money.” Matthew 6:24
“Stay away from the love of money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5
There’s a philosophical saying among business people that money is both good and bad–it’s good if you have it and bad if you don’t. We agree, or disagree. But seriously, money can be valuable especially in times of emergencies in our families or for future investment that we want to leave behind for our loved ones and even to support for our daily needs. Above all, it is very useful for the work of God. Money itself therefore is not evil, but the love of it is.
Money is dangerous when it deceives us into thinking that wealth will solve all of our problems. The love of money is sinful when we trust it, rather than God, for our security. Since God gave us the ability to make money, it really belongs to Him. The crucial question though is not how much of our money we should give to God, but how much of His money we should keep.
“Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the best part of everything your land produces. Then He will fill your barns with grain, and your vats will overflow with the finest wine.” Proverbs 3:9-10
