How to Prevent Eye Wrinkles and Crow’s Feet
With age, comes wisdom…and crow’s feet. To address this age-old pest of nature, is a mixture of good old common sense and affordability. Here are top five home remedies to deal with eye wrinkles:
- Don’t sleep on your side. Ever consider that ton of pressure you’re putting on that delicate facial skin when you sleep on your face? Now add the nightly tossing and turning. You probably wouldn’t be surprised to hear that the sheer amount of wear tear your face contributes to the appearance of fine lines right? The best thing to do is to sleep on your back, which according to CNN prevents neck and back pain, reduces acid reflux, and more.
- Moisturize, moisturize! You don’t want to dehydrate your skin! Help your skin retain the water, do it a favor and seal in natural water with vitamin E or coconut oil! If skin is dry, it sags and eye wrinkles are more likely to form.
- Stay out of the sun! If you have to be in the sun, use lots and lots of UV protection. It’s common practice for moms to slather their babies and kids with sunblock at the beach or at the park. Now why is it that people rarely put sunblock on the delicate facial skin near the eyes? New York plastic surgeon Darrick Antell, MD, doing studies of twins found sun exposure was even more important than heredity in the development of eye wrinkles. Siblings who limited sun time had fewer wrinkles and looked younger overall than their sun-worshiping twins.
- Don’t smoke. Though the results are preliminary, smoking has been shown to break down elastin. Yes, it’s exactly as it sounds, elastin is a protein responsible for the elasticity in the skin that allows tissues to resume their shape after stretching. Now if the skin can’t resume its normal shape, we open the door to sagged, loose, and wrinkly skin.
- Be happy, don’t worry! Everything’s going to be alright. Smiling reduces wrinkles because the more you frown, glare, raise your eyebrows or squint, the more likely you are to develop permanent lines in your skin. (Adapted by Jessy Pearl)
