Talisay City administrator John Yre delos Reyes on Wednesday defended his father-mayor Johnny V. Delos Reyes (JVR), whom Vice Mayor Romeo Villarante claimed to have took no action to convene the city council, prompting Villarante to call for a special session on Friday last week.

In that special session, the council passed a resolution placing the city under a state of calamity. Accordingly, this has touched the ego of John Yre for his father, saying the vice mayor could have at least informed his father that he planned to do it.

“Naa man unta siya’y load allowance nga P5,00, wa gyud siya katawag sa mayor. Mas natawagan pa niya ang media ug ang PIO,” John Yre said.

John Yre said if Villarante had no intention to “bypass” the mayor, he could have done the courtesy of informing the latter even through a text message, and that he should have held the special session at the City Hall and not in some restaurant.

Earlier, Villarante said he had called a special session last Friday after he heard no words from mayor JVR asking the council to convene for a special session after the City Hall was damaged by the earthquake.

The vice mayor explained that it was the majority of the council that decided to place the city under a state of calamity to allow the mayor to use the existing calamity funds. He did not, however, offer a reason why he did not inform the mayor of such a plan beforehand.
