Samsam Appeals to Set Aside Politics
First district Representative Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas appealed to the Talisay City administration to “set aside” politics and instead impress the people through good public service.
“They have already won. So, what’s best for them to do now is to set aside politics and do their job as public servants for the betterment of Talisay. Anyway, they’re there not for themselves but for the Talisaynons,” said Samsam in an interview.
Samsam’s statement came after Talisay City administrator John Eyre and city legal officer Alfredo Sipalay questioned the additional workers at the Talisay City College (TCC) and the 62 Talisay Aide Volunteer (TAV) teachers, saying these are midnight appointees by the outgoing administration.
These workers were hired between May and June this year before then Mayor Socrates Fernandez’s term expired. Delos Reyes and Sipalay, appointed as new department heads by the sitting Mayor Johnny V. delos Reyes, has ordered the holding of salaries of the TCC new workers for more than two months and terminated the contract of the 62 TAVs on the reason that the city wants to save on funds.
“Kung ila na’ng ipadayon, dili man sila ang maapektuhan. Dili sab ako. Kung di ang mga tawo,” said Samsam. It can be recalled that in last May’s election, Delos Reyes ran against veteran lawmaker and Samsam’s grandfather former Cong. Eduardo Gullas (first district), and won by a slim margin of 736 votes.
