City Eyes 3 Sites for P50M Library
At least 3 sites are being considered for the proposed Php50 Million worth of Public Library Building, personally donated by Takashi Tanaka, the owner of Toyoflex Cebu Foundation, to the Cebu City Government.
The city government of Cebu headed by Mayor Michael Rama is considering the following areas for the project: first, is the government-owned lot beside the new multipurpose gymnasium of barangay Tinago along Arellano Boulevard; second, is the current site of the city’s Building Maintenance Services (BMS) near the city’s Senior Citizen’s Park; and the third is part of the South Road Properties.
The Mayor, who always emphasized that his second term as the city’s chief executive will be more on a ‘People-Privately Driven Governance’, is grateful for the support of his Japanese friend to his administration.
The Mayor went to Fukuoka in Japan for a one-week official trip to personally observe their retirement facilities and encourage investors to pour in investments in this city and see the possibility of putting the same facility here.
Mr. Tanaka has been helping the city by giving free scholarship and Japanese Language Training to the Cebu City Medical Center College of Nursing students. He was also recognized by the city during its Charter Anniversary this year for his generosity and eagerness in extending help to the Cebuanos.
Mayor Rama has invited Mr. Tanaka during the ocular inspections of the sites along with Mr. Henry Tomalabcad of the mayor’s office and former City Councilor Atty. Jocelyn Pesquera who are tasked by the Mayor in ironing all legalities and proper procedure for the realization of the project.
Moreover, the city’s public library is currently located in the first floor of Rizal Museum and Public Library building along Osmena Boulevard. It will be transferred to its new site, which will be decided by the Mayor soon. (By: Greggy Jiggs P. Senados, PIO Staff)
