PAGASA Warns of Severe Thunderstorms: Cebu Among Affected Areas
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has released a thunderstorm warning affecting Metro Manila, several areas in Luzon, and parts of Central Visayas, including Cebu. The southwest monsoon (habagat) continues to bring moderate to heavy rainfall, raising concerns over possible flooding, landslides, and transportation delays.
Weather disturbances linked to the monsoon are causing cloudy skies, scattered rains, and thunderstorms across Cebu and nearby provinces. PAGASA reports that sea conditions remain moderate to rough, posing risks for small vessels. Residents in low-lying areas are advised to monitor flood-prone zones and prepare for emergency responses.
According to PAGASA, the heavy rainfall and thunderstorms caused by the low-pressure area (LPA) and southwest monsoon are expected to persist until June 12. The prolonged rainfall may lead to localized flooding and landslides, especially in mountainous areas.
Local authorities urge the public to stay indoors during intense rainfall, be vigilant of potential hazards, and remain updated on weather bulletins.
