MGB7 Warns Against Geohazard Threats

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources’s Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) 7 recently issued its latest landslide and flood threat advisories to local executive chiefs and all governors in the region.

MGB-7 Regional Director Loreto B. Alburo said they already sent a new batch of advisories to all local chief executives in Central Visayas, both the newly elected and the re-elected, for them “to familiarize with the findings” and with the geohazards maps in their respective areas.

He said the point of sending them the advisories is for them to start implementing the recommendations of the MGB, which are attached in the advisories.

“The results and the recommendations should be properly addressed by the LGUs taking into account the urgency of the mitigating measures to be established in order to protect the loss of lives and pieces of property,” said DENR 7 Regional Executive Director Dr. Isabelo Montejo.

Montejo stressed that local leaders should take these threats seriously, especially those areas they have listed as “ very susceptible” to landslide and flooding.
