Cebu to Have Integrated Bus and Sea Port Terminal at SRP with Private Sector Collaboration

Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia has opened doors for any proposal from private companies that will partner with the provincial government to build an integrated and inter-modal transport terminal ideally at the South Road Properties.

This means, that the new terminal will incorporate routes for Northern and Southern Cebu as well as a seaport for ferry and sea-taxis.

“We are open to proposals of private companies that wish to partner with the Province of Cebu in order to realize this project,” Garcia said.

Garcia agreed with Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama’s recent announcement that the Capitol-owned Cebu South Bus Terminal (CSBT) should be transferred to the SRP to ease congestion at the Natalio Bacalso Avenue.

“I agree with Mayor Mike (Rama) that pretty soon the South Bus Terminal must be transferred. But our vision is integrating both North and South terminals at the SRP because the SRP is right there at the center. It would become an integrated bus terminal,” Garcia said on Tuesday, October 24.

The idea to transfer the CSBT to another location was long planned even before Rama made the announcement seeking to transfer the facility to the SRP.

The integrated terminal, Garcia adds, will not only accommodate buses but also jeepneys, taxis, and other modes of transportation including ferries.

“What we would wish to look for a private sector partner that would be willing, and I know that there are some big names that in fact own huge tracks of land–the ideal track would be the land that faces or contiguous to the sea so that we can build a port as well so that we can have sea taxis bringing in or made available,” Garcia explained.

Garcia said that once the facility is transferred to the SRP, the existing CSBT lot will also be up for proposals from private companies who wish to partner with the provincial government to develop it into possible commercial spaces.

“For the partner company, they are given the perfect location for their business,” the governor added.
