Lapu-Lapu City Coastal Clean-Up Drive Yields 50 Sacks of Garbage

Lapu-Lapu City government conducted a clean-up drive in Barangay Pangan-an last Tuesday, which yielded 50 sacks of garbage — each sack weighed 6 to 8 kilos.

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan initiated the coastal clean-up with the assistance of the Philippines National Police (PNP), Department of Interior Local Government (DILG), City Agriculture and Fisheries Office (CAFO), and the residents of Barangay Pangan-an.

Lapu-Lapu City Environment & Natural Resources Office (CENRO) Officer-in-Charge Dr. Ronald Oporto said that Lapu-Lapu City Government will install toilets and communal comfort rooms.

“Through Mayor Chan and Congresswoman Cindi King-Chan, we will provide free toilets—three per sitio—and install communal comfort rooms with flushing water connected to the sea and with septic tanks to prevent waste from going directly into the sea,” Oporto said.

Aside from the coastal clean-up in the said barangay, the city government of Lapu-Lapu City also conducted the registration of pump boats in the Pangan-an. Around 40 pump boats were registered during the clean-up drive, after which they will be given free insurance coverage. Owners who have not yet registered their pump boats will be able to do so at the city’s mainland.

PNP Maritime Office Head M/Sgt. Joselito Catabas urge pump boat owners to register their pump boats as officers will soon inspect the registration of the boats — boats without registration will face penalties. (ASC)
