LPA Becomes Tropical Depression Obet
A Low Pressure Area (LPA) inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has now developed into a Tropical Depression (TD) with the name Obet on Wednesday.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), TD Obet as of the moment is 1,045 kilometers east of extreme northern Luzon and has a maximum sustained wind of 45 kilometers per hour with a gustiness of 55 kilometers per hour.
Pagasa weather forecaster Daniel James Villamil made the announcement during the state weather bureau’s morning forecast.
“Kaninang alas dos ng umaga, ang low pressure area na ating mino-monitor sa silangang bahagi ng Luzon ay naging isang ganap na bagyo at binigyan natin na lokal name na Obet,” Villamil said.
According to the forecast, Obet currently has no direct impact in the country but will start to be felt as early as Friday evening or Saturday morning as the Tropical Depression nears northern Luzon.
There is also a possibility of Pagasa raising up to Signal no. 2 in northern Luzon areas due to the impact of Obet as it draws closer.
A shear line is currently affecting parts of northern Luzon including the provinces of Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Norte, Cagayan, and Apayao.
Gale warnings have also been raised in parts of northern Luzon such as Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, and Pangasinan sure to the northeasterly surface windflow.
Meanwhile, the eastern Visayas region will experience overcast skies with scattered rain showers coupled with thunderstorms due to the southwesterly surface windflow. (GFB)
