Hong Kong Beefs Up Tourism Recovery by Giving Away Free Plane Tickets

In order to promote tourism in 2023, the Hong Kong tourism board intends to distribute half a million free plane tickets. It is projected that the giveaway program will cost the Hong Kong government HK$2 billion to operate.

As part of the government’s support program for the aviation industry, the Hong Kong Tourism Board already acquired tickets in 2020 from companies like Hong Kong Airlines, Hong Kong Express, and Cathay Pacific. The Hong Kong Tourism Board states that it plans to launch the promotion in early 2023 and would provide additional information about the free airline tickets once all local health restrictions have been relaxed.

For a place whose tourism economy has more-or-less entirely collapsed over the past two years, a free trip to Hong Kong is quite worth it.

Said the collapse of Hong Kong’s tourism economy was a result of the 2019 civil unrest, then the pandemic, and one of the harshest travel lockdowns in the world.

The shutdown of Russian airspace and persistent limitations in mainland China are only two of the key obstacles that remain in the way of HK’s tourism economy recovering. However, a free trip to explore Hong Kong’s world-class pubs, unique local neighborhoods, and steep hiking trails would be too fantastic to pass up.

The offer would initially focus on nations in south-east Asian countries.
