Boracay has once again emerged as one of the top islands in the world, as it added another award to its long list of international recognitions.

This comes as the island was awarded as the top island in Asia and the 2022 Readers’ Choice Awards of US-based luxury and lifestyle travel magazine Condé Nast Traveler.

Boracay earned a rating of 95.13, which was good for first place in the award.

Boracay is trailed by Bali, Indonesia at 2nd place; Koh Samui, Thailand at 3rd place; Langkawi, Malaysia at 4th place; and Phuket, Thailand at 5th place.

Palawan also made it to the top 10 list after bagging 8th place in the same award.

Meanwhile, the Philippines was ranked in the top 30 in the magazine’s top 48 countries in the world.

Department of Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco was grateful for the recognition, saying that the country’s focus is to “continue building confidence” for the country.

“We are extremely grateful for these international awards for the Philippines based on the opinion and experience of travelers from all over the world. As we usher in this new era of travel post-pandemic, our focus is to continue building confidence towards travel to the country by ensuring improvement in ease of access, prioritizing tourist safety and convenience, and encouraging sustainable tourism practices,” Garcia-Frasco said.

Moreover, the DOT chief added that the recognitions affirm the government’s efforts to make the Philippines the premier tourist destination in Asia.

“Recognitions such as these affirm our efforts to herald not only our country’s natural wonders but also our readiness to become the premier tourist destination in Asia. The Department is one with all our tourism stakeholders, from the local government units, private sector partners, and our fellowmen in celebrating these victories for the Philippines from Condé Nast Traveler. We are confident that the acclaim for our flagship destinations will help garner more international interest for our country,” Garcia-Frasco added.

Furthermore, the Philippines also bagged other recognitions in the magazine, as Shangri-La’s Boracay Resort bagged the 5th spot, El Nido Resort – Pangulasian Island at the 8th spot, while Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa, Cebu bagged the 20th spot in the Top Resort in Asia awards.

Condé Nast Traveler conducts an annual survey where its readers rate the best islands, cities, countries, and resorts in the world, among others. (GFB)
