Educators In Adventure Program
Seventy school heads underwent a three-day leadership training workshop with Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) Kool Adventure Camp (KAC) last July 29-31.
The workshop is part of the training component set for teachers under the Educational QUality ImProvement through Community Empowerment and capacity BUilding (EQUIP Cebu) of RAFI.
The participants experienced multi-challenge adventure initiatives, which included activities that develop collaboration, critical thinking, effective communication, and consensus building. The program focused on enhancing vital skills and qualities to become effective leaders in the school community.

“We aim to provide trainings that have more impact to school leaders and at the same time equip them with the skills needed to face the challenges of leadership in our schools. This training is not the usual training they all go through as it utilizes experiential activities. We wanted to bring the teachers outside their usual classroom setting, hopefully, for them to see and learn from another perspective and be able to think outside the box,” Tanya Amanda Flores, program officer of EQUIP-CEBU, explained.
The program was attended by school heads coming from Carcar City and Municipalities of Asturias and Liloan.
EQUIP-CEBU is a program under RAFI’s Education focus area, which aims to improve the quality of education through enhancing the capacity of the stakeholders in managing their schools.
KAC is one of the programs under RAFI’s Leadership & Citizenship focus area, where future leaders are nurtured to prepare them to take an active role in affecting change. Other focus areas of RAFI are Integrated Development, Micro-finance & Entrepreneurship, Culture and Heritage, and Education.
KAC has been offering adventure education programs for leadership and team development for youth and professionals for the last decade. It is currently building the Philippines’ first fully dedicated adventure education center, which is set to open in 2014.
