AFP Assures PBBM, VP Sara, Former Leaders’ Safety Amid Shinzo Abe Assassination

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Sunday gave the assurance that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., Vice President Sara Duterte, and all former leaders of the country are safe.

The statement of the AFP came as Japan’s longest-serving prime minister, former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was assassinated on Friday while delivering a campaign speech in the city of Nara, Japan.

AFP Spokesperson Col. Medel Aguilar said that the two security groups, namely the Presidential Security Group (PSG) and the Vice Presidential Security and Protection Group (VPSPG) are in full force to protect the current leaders of the country.

“We have the PSG and the VPSPG to protect the President and the Vice President, respectively. In coordination with these units, we provide additional security coverage in places of their engagements,” Aguilar said.

Moreover, Aguilar added that other units are also deployed to places that the President and the Vice President go to.

Aguilar also said that the PSG and the VPSPG are led by competent leaders.

“It is for the units I mentioned to determine force requirements for the security operations. They are led by competent officers,” Aguilar said. (GFB)
