Globe Fires Up 380 New 5G Sites in Q1 2022
Globe continues to make 5G wireless technology accessible to more areas nationwide, firing up 380 new sites in the first three months of the year alone.
The additional facilities were established in Metro Manila, Rizal, Cavite, Batangas, Bulacan, Davao, Cebu, Misamis Oriental, and Iloilo. Globe’s 5G network now covers 95 percent of the National Capital Region (NCR) population and 84 percent in Visayas and Mindanao.
“These new builds augment both 5G outdoor and in-building solutions across the country. They also support the company’s strategy of providing 5G technology where it matters,” said Marge Dizon, VP for Program Delivery in Globe’s Network Technical Group.
5G technology is the next generation of wireless internet connectivity, offering faster speeds, lower latency, higher bandwidth, and more reliable internet connections than 4G. It is up to 20 times faster than LTE, with fiber-fast speeds of up to 100 Mbps.
Globe has been scaling up its rollout amid rising demand for 5G connectivity. It earmarked P89 billion in 2022 to accelerate the 5G rollout, build new cell sites, upgrade existing sites to 4G/LTE, and ramp up the fiberization of Filipino homes nationwide.
Last year, Globe spent an all-time high P92.8 billion to breach the 2,000-mark for 5G outdoor sites and in-building solutions, build 1,407 new cell sites, and install 1.4 million fiber-to-the-home lines.
The company’s relentless efforts to upgrade its 5G network have already yielded positive results. Earlier, Globe bagged Ookla® ’s Best 5G Video Experience Award in the Philippines, proving that its customers are already reaping the fruits of its massive network investment.
