US Gives Additional Monetary Aid For Ecosystem Recovery in PH

The United States government, through the US Agency for International Development (USAID), gave additional monetary aid worth P17.5 million for the redevelopment of ecosystems and communities that were ravaged by Typhoon Odette.

This additional aid will support organizations in affected areas to assess the damage to ecosystems and wildlife habitats as well as improve the community’s disaster resilience and recovery.

Additionally, this aid will also provide assistance to affected farmers, fisherfolks, and indigenous people.

Civil society groups in Siargao Island, Dinagat Islands, Palawan, Cebu, Bohol, Southern Leyte, and Caraga will receive P2.5 million each to help them implement related projects.

Recovery projects will range from the rehabilitation of coastal and terrestrial ecosystems and improvement of disaster risk reduction and management initiatives, including the recovery of livelihood, and also provide incentives to local communities to encourage them to help rehabilitate their natural resource base.

Including this additional monetary aid, the US government has already given P1.1 billion in total for Typhoon Odette relief. (ASC)
