TD Agaton Advisory: Power Failure Causes Service Outage in Selected Areas

Power failure has affected access to calls, text, and data connectivity in several towns in Visayas as Tropical Depression Agaton continued to cross the Philippine landmass.

As of 9 a.m. on Monday, April 11, call and text service outages were reported in 24 towns in Leyte, 16 in Southern Leyte, 10 in Bohol, and 4 in Cebu while data connection (3G and LTE) were affected in 24 towns in Leyte, 15 in Southern Leyte, 10 in Bohol, and 2 in Cebu.

The initial landfall of slow-moving Agaton hit Guiuian, Eastern Samar as a tropical storm early Sunday morning. It has since weakened into a tropical depression, but the state weather bureau PAGASA is expecting a second landfall.

Globe is readying its Libreng Tawag and Libreng Charging stations in storm-hit areas as soon as it is safe to do so.

Globe, likewise, provides its customers free data access to the website of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) and PAGASA for updates. The company is urging Filipinos to only tune in to legitimate and trusted news sources for correct information.

Residents on the storm’s path are advised to stay tuned to PAGASA updates and heed local government units’ evacuation calls.
