The United States government has approved the sale of $95 million worth of equipment and training for Taiwan’s patriot missile systems.

Included in the package are training, planning, fielding, deployment, operation, maintenance, and sustainment of the Patriot Air Defense System and associated equipment, according to Pentagon.

Taiwan’s beefing up its air defense capabilities as China continues to assert dominance over their country.

Taiwan has been experiencing China’s increased military pressure and provocation.

With this air defense system, Taiwan plans to use this equipment to deter regional threats and strengthen homeland defense.

However, while the state department approved the sale, it does not indicate the contract has been signed. The decision will come from the contractor, Raytheon Technologies Corp.

Taiwan is optimistic that the arms deal will conclude soon. (ASC)
