Classes Suspended in Talisay City Amid Rising COVID-19 Cases

Classes in public schools in the City of Talisay are suspended starting January 19 to January 28.

Talisay City Mayor Gerald “Samsam” Gullas announced on his Facebook page that all classes in public schools, whether modular or face to face, are suspended as COVID-19 cases continue to rise in the city.

Gullas said that he met with the DepEd officials and agreed to suspend classes to avoid the spread of COVID-19 among the students.

“Starting tomorrow, January 19, until January 28, all classes (whether modular or face to face) will be suspended due to the rise of Covid-19 cases in our city and the implementation of Alert Level 3 in the entire Province,” Gullas said.

Even though the city has already reached 70% vaccination rate among its residents, Gullas still stressed the importance of vaccination and urge Talisaynons to get vaccinated or if already fully-vaccinated, take booster shots against COVID-19.

“Today based on data by the DOH, those that are fully vaccinated and boosted will have mild symptoms compared to the ones who aren’t vaccinated,” Gullas said.

Moreover, Gullas also assured the students that their summer vacation won’t be affected by this suspension of classes.

“Also, sa mga students nato, ayaw kabalaka, according to our DepED superintendent dili ibaylo ang inyong summer vacation sa mga na missed na adlaw ninyo because of the suspension of these school days,” Gullas mentioned.

As for private schools, Gullas said that he gave the school administrators of private schools the discretion to suspend their classes. (ASC)
