1,082,250 government-procured doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine arrived in the country on Wednesday night, just in time for the second leg of the national vaccination days that will be on December 15 to 17.

The timely arrival of the doses come as the government plans to inoculate around seven million individuals during the second massive vaccination drive, which aims to build on the success that the first massive vaccination drive saw last November 29 to December 3.

A number of provinces were identified as “key priority areas,” which are areas where in the number of vaccinations against the COVID-19 pandemic are low. These areas will be the focus of the vaccination drive, even though the three-day drive will occur nationwide.

Among the areas identified as priority areas are Bicol, Calabarzon, Central Luzon, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Mindanao, and Western Visayas.

The Philippines aims to vaccinate at least 54 million individuals before the end of 2021 to achieve population protection.

Meanwhile, 38.69 million individuals have been fully vaccinated as of December 6, while around 560,000 have already received their booster shots. (GFB)
