Imported Automobile Sales in September Increase
Sales of imported vehicles in the country month-on-month in September grew over 20 percent according to the Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors (AVID) Wednesday.
AVID reported an increase of 26 percent increase in the sales of outsourced vehicles to 4,946 units sold in September 2021 from 3,919 units sold in August of the same year.
The increase in sales is in part due to the relaxation of quarantine restrictions by the government after Metro Manila was again placed under the enhanced community quarantine or the most strict quarantine restriction in the Philippines early August 2021.
However, year-to-date sales of passenger cars dropped by 1 percent to 11,596 units.
Commercial vehicle sales however, grew a whopping 311 percent–from 223 units sold in 2020 to 917 units sold this year.
The Philippine local automotive industry has set a target of selling a total of 295,000 units for 2021. This target set comprises of both domestic assemblers together with importers. (GFB)
