Vaccination rollout of the Philippines against COVID-19 has been ramped up as the national government reports that the country has reached the 550,000 mark in average daily vaccinations in the first 12 days of August 2021.

National Task Force Against Covid-19 (NTF) deputy chief implementer Vivencio Dizon made the announcement, adding that the 550,000 daily average vaccinations in August is a huge increase from the 320,000 daily jabs the country has administered for July 2021.

The current number, if sustainable, will be a huge step in the country’s target of 750,000 to 1 million daily doses administered, with the main goal of vaccinating 70 million by the end of the year.

Dizon also added that the country might be able to reach its target in the next few days.

Moreover, the NTF is aiming to fully vaccinate 50 percent of the population in the National Capital Region, which is one of the hotspots in the country where the delta variant is currently wreaking havoc.

As more Sinovac vaccines doses arrive in the country via donations from different countries, Dizon said that vaccination efforts will be further ramped up in places experiencing a spike in COVID-19 cases, including Cebu. The deployment of the vaccines started Friday. (GFB)
