80 Modern Public Utulity Jeepney to Traverse Cebu City, Liloan

Development of mass transportation continues to ramp up in Cebu City and other areas in Cebu as 80 units Modern Public Utulity Jeepney (MPUJ) are set to traverse the roads of Cebu City and the Municipality of Liloan today.

The Provisional Authority for the 80 MPUJs were handed out to three operators during the ribbon cutting ceremony for the mass transportation vehicles Friday, July 16.

the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new modern jeepneys was attended by Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB)-7 Director Eduardo Montealto Jr. and Land Transportation Office (LTO)-7 Director Victor Caindec.

Of the 80 MPUJs, 65 will roam the streets of Cebu City, while the remaining 15 will be used for transportation from SM City Cebu in Cebu City to the Municipality of Liloan vice-versa.

LTFRB handed out the special permit for the 80 MPUJ units after the ribbon cutting ceremony.

The new MPUJs are slated for operation today, July 17.

As of today, 721 modern jeepneys are now operating within Cebu City, while an additional 65 modern jeepneys are also operating with routes from Cebu City to Metro Cebu, and the Province of Cebu, vice-versa. (GFB)
