COVID-19 Vaccinations for Elderly to Begin Alongside Health Workers

As the vaccination for health workers proceeds, the national government has given the green light to start the vaccinations of the elderly.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque announced the vaccinations in a press briefing last Saturday, March 27, 2021.

Roque said that the private and public hospitals as well as the local government units (LGUs) are to create a substitution list that will consist of people from sectors A1 (health workers), A2 (senior citizens aged 60 and above), and A3 (patients with comorbidity).

Roque also mentioned LGU officials strictly follow the prioritization plan of the COVID-19 vaccination.

President Rodrigo Duterte said last Wednesday that there is a “gray area” in the vaccination of some officials.

Duterte also said that the World Health Organization might forfeit the Philippines from the Vaccines Global Access (COVAX) Facility and will not anymore receive vaccines from them.

The country is expected to receive 44 million COVID-19 vaccines from WHO through the Vaccines Global Access (COVAX) Facility.

The Vaccine Czar Galvez Jr. earlier recommended the simultaneous inoculation of vaccines for people from sectors A1, A2, and A3 while the private sector inoculates A4 or economic front-liners. (ASC)
