Mild side effects of the AstraZeneca coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine have been detected in Cebu City as reported by the Department of Health Central Visayas (DOH)-7.

According to a data from DOH-7, out of 12,088 vaccinated health workers in the region, 698 of them were reportedly experiencing side effects of the said vaccine.

Common side effects complained by health workers were fever, muscle pain, chills, headache and increased blood pressure.

However, a nurse working in Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) said she didn’t experience the mentioned side effects except only that she felt slight numbness on her deltoid muscle.

No blood clotting side effects were reported, which was the reason a couple of countries such as Italy and Switzerland hverejected the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

South Africa also temporarily halted the rollout of the vaccine, after studies recently showed that it had “disappointing” results against the South African variant.

Meanwhile in Cebu, DOH-7 Chief Pathologist Dr. Mary Jean Loreche said that hopefully by March 23 all registered health workers in the region will be vaccinated.

AstraZeneca

AstraZeneca is a British-Swedish pharmaceutical company which is one of the vaccine companies to have been granted Emergency Use Authorization by the Philippine government for mass vaccination.

Nearly 500,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on March 4 carried by a KLM Royal Dutch Airlines airplane.

No Visita Iglesia

On March 10, 30,000 doses of Astrazeneca vaccines arrived in Cebu city.

Cebu city however, retained its MGCQ status despite having high COVID-19 cases. The archdiocese of Cebu also reminded everyone that the “Visita Iglesia” this coming holy week is suspended to prevent the further spread of the disease.

It was already reported that all religous activities this coming holy week will also be suspended but people will be able to watch different contents at home since everything will be done virtually. (MLC)
