Leyte Road Projects to Boost Tourism And Economic Activity
Road infrastructures in the province of Leyte in the Visayas is expected to further boost tourism and economic activities in the region. Over P200 million worth of road projects have been completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
“Investing into infrastructure is crucial in the country’s economic recovery from the current crisis, particularly in reviving the tourism industry. This is one of the thrusts of the Duterte administration. Infrastructure buildup will continue to be one of the priority areas of this government, given its major contribution to economic development,” said Secretary Michael Dino, Presidential Assistant for the Visayas.
Two recent road projects have been completed by the DPWH, these are the P75 million Kananga-Tongonan Hot Spring Road Widening, which leads to the geothermal facilities in Leyte and the P46 million Lake Danao-Gaas-Sition Maglahog-Quezon Jr. Road which also leads to Lake Danao and Lake Kasusuran.
The 1.5 kilometer road will give safer and easier access for tourists to visit the mentioned destinations.
The Convergence and Special Support Program of the General Appropriations Act (GAA) of 2020 was the basis for the projects’ funding, this is also part of the DPWH-Department of Tourism Convergence Program.
Meanwhile, DPWH Leyte 1st District Engineering Office (DEO) also has also finished building the P91.6 million road leading to Alangalang, Leyte.
The completion of the mentioned projects will enable people to have convenient transport and travel to access quality local products and improve the standard of living for the community. (MLC)
