Sto. Niño de Cebu Basilica to Reopen Soon
The Basilica Minore del Santo Niño de Cebu (BMSN) in Cebu City announced on Friday that it is preparing for its reopening after its personnel have tested negative for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
“Based on the latest reports and communication we received from the barangay officials of Barangay Santo Niño, the personnel from Basilica del Santo Niño who have tested ‘positive’ (for) Covid-19 are now confirmed Covid-19-free,” Fr. Andres Rivera, Jr., prior provincial, said in a Facebook post.
Rivera said the date of reopening would be announced soon by the rector of the Basilica.
“In line with this, the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño and the Pilgrim Center are now being prepared for reopening. The confirmed date of the reopening, along with the guidelines and precautionary measures for all the pilgrims and devotees of the Basilica, will be officially announced soon by the Office of the Basilica Rector,” he added.
At the same time, the basilica expressed gratitude to the people for their support, understanding, and prayers.
“We thank the public for the whole-hearted support, understanding, and all the undying prayers offered,” it added.
The basilica has been temporarily closed after several priests and employees were suspected of being infected with the virus.
Probable cases of Covid-19 in the church were detected last May.
Cebu City was downgraded into a modified enhanced community quarantine effective Thursday. (PNA)
