DILG Suspends Quarantine Passes in Cebu City
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) ordered the immediate suspension of all quarantine passes effective 10 p.m. yesterday, June 23.
Yesterday morning, environment secretary Roy Cimatu arrived in Cebu along with DILG Secretary Eduardo Año and other top officials from the national government to help address the situation in Cebu amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
President Rodrigo Duterte directed Cimatu to lead the said operation in Cebu.
Meanwhile, the declaration of the suspension of quarantine passes gained negative feedback from citizens, especially on social media.
People were confused about how they are going to get to work or even buy groceries now that the quarantine passes are invalid.
“Updates on the distribution of the new quarantine passes and the process on how to get it will be given soon,” Cebu City Mayor Edgar Labella said in a late-night statement on his Facebook.
Authorized Persons Outside of Residence (APOR) and essential workers however are still allowed to go out.
Labella also urged everyone to support their local officials.
“The city government will continue to help the barangays, we are continuously coordinating with them. Please support your local officials,” Labella said.
Updates and other details will be announced by the Cebu City Government as soon as they come up with the right solution. (MLC)
