Rice Donated by China to be Distributed to Visayas LGUs, AFP and PNP
The Chinese government donated 3,000 bags of 10 kg rice to Local Government Units (LGUs), the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) through the Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas (OPAV).
Chinese Consulate General Jia Li turned over the bags of rice to Secretary Michael Dino during the 45th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between The Philippines and China. The turnover was held at the Project Balik Buhay command center, The Greenery, Pope John Paul II Ave. in Cebu City.
400 bags were distributed to the cities of Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue; 300 bags each to the PNP and AFP; and 800 bags each to the LGUs of Regions 6 and 8 where quarantine centers with rising COVID-19 cases are present.
2,000 bags were also turned over for Cebu City.
“This is our way of showing solidarity with the Filipinos in the fight against COVID-19, our common enemy,” said Consul Jia.
Meanwhile, Secretary Dino on his side thanked the Chinese government for their constant support to the Filipino front-liners battling the global pandemic.
Secretary Dino also recognized the contribution of China to the country’s economy, especially in Central Visayas.
“We look forward to the day when both of our countries will overcome this crisis,” Secretary Dino said.
The Chinese government is also facilitating the donation of personal protective equipment (PPEs) and other essentials for the front-liners.
2,292 bags of rice were also turned over for Cebu Province in a separate ceremony. In total, there were 7,292 bags donated worth P3.5 million. (MLC)
